Elementary and Junior high school students are able to ride the school bus from JR Hosono or Kintetsu Takanohara stations. Nara Kotsu operates buses from Kintetsu Gakuenmae Station that stop just near the main gate (travel time is approx. 8 minutes). Campus is within commuting distance from Kyoto, Osaka, and Nara.
M3 (7th grade) and M4 (8th grade) students take a math or English quiz before first period. This allows students to test their knowledge of what’s being presented in class and set new goals for their studies. Supplemental lessons are available after school so that students can strengthen those areas they might not understand well.
Using the schools’ well-equipped classrooms, students increase their curiosity in the world around them by conducting experiments and observations. This allows them to nurture their ability to view things from a scientific point of view.
School lunch is available until the end of M4 (8th grade). 7th and 8th graders eat school lunch in their classrooms. Through the provided meal, students are able to think about issues concerning food and health. Students take turns serving lunch to each other and lean about the importance of nutrition and gratitude for the ingredients and work involved in making meals. Starting in 9th grade, students can bring their own lunch or purchase lunch from the school cafeteria.
Lunch recess gives students a chance to interact with their friends. They are free to use this time to do things like chat with friends or use the library.
Students are able to nurture practical English communication skills through English communication classes that are taught by teachers who are native English speakers. These teachers use lots of humor and interesting activities to allow students to improve their listening and speaking skills.
Naragakuen Tomigaoka respects students’ individuality and personal interests, and encourages them to explore and cultivate those interests. At present, 22 clubs are available to students and cover a wide range of activities and interests from culture and humanities related clubs to sports teams. Participation in one of the clubs is highly recommended and allows students to interact with others who have similar interests.
