International Exchange Highlights
Every September students from Aquinas College in Australia visit as part of a study tour. While in Nara, the Aquinas students participate in a homestay with Naragakuen Tomigaoka students’ families and join classes alongside Naragakuen Tomigaoka students. Y3 students also visit Aquinas during their study tour of Australia.
Students from institutions other than Naragakuen Tomigaoka’s partner schools are also welcomed. From 2015 to 2017, students from schools in Chongqing, Shanghai and Beijing, China visited Naragakuen Tomigaoka and interacted with the Y2 students. Both groups communicate primarily in English, and it provides a great opportunity for students to improve their communication skills and promote international understanding.
All Y2 students participate in an English Camp every fall. The 3-day camp provides an immersive environment with teachers who are native English speakers. Students are divided into groups by level for intensive English communication classes.
Students have the opportunity to communicate with peers from around the world via video chat. Students are able to have question and answer sessions as well as share performances and presentations.
For their school trip, all Y3 students visit Queensland, Australia for two weeks starting in May. During the trip, visits to partner schools in Australia allow students to learn about Australian culture and communicating in English. Students also have the opportunity to experience Australian family life first hand through a 10-day homestay.
